There is a sombre mood in the office this week with the passing of John Von Pein, more affectionately known as JVP. He was well known and respected in the rural community being a rural real estate agent for over thirty years and prior to that a farmer at Tahunga.
Although JVP hadn’t been selling real estate for the past couple of years he was still a regular in the office, sharing his wealth of experience with everyone, his knowledge was so vast he had forgotten more than most people know. I will miss our regular chats over a cup of tea and our trips on the road getting out an about with you.
As we wind down through the levels of COVID19 and start to get back to some levels of normality, the farmers and food producers have once again proven to be the back bone of our economy. Let’s hope you are recognised this time by the powers to be. With strong farm gate prices for commodities and favourable weather conditions so far for lambing and calving, and hopefully the right mix of rain and sunshine going forward things are looking very positive.
The thirst for real-estate in the rural sector across all facets of the industry is strong, and through this latest lockdown the enquiries for all classes of land has not slowed down. The lifestyle market is very buoyant, with local and out of town enquiry, one thing COVID has taught us is that you can work remotely, so the opportunity to be able to move out of the larger cities and into the provinces to live the better life is very attractive.
Demand in the horticulture sector is still very strong and aggressive, with strong enquiry for bare land for greenfield development as well as demand for established orchards, not only kiwifruit and apple orchards but also citrus and vineyards.
Hill Country, is strong as ever, with strong returns at the farmgate and confidence amongst farmers, driving the demand for hill country farms as well as investors looking to invest in the forestry sector.
If you are thinking of selling any type of rural land and would like to discuss the current market and the process, please contact me for a confidential and no obligation chat.
